On January 20, 2017, James L. King left this world to go fishing with his boys, Ryan and Justin. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 25, at 3:00 PM at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel with Brenda Goodman officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Tuttle Cemetery. Per Jim’s request, cremation has taken place. Jim entered this world on November 8, 1946, in Glendale, California, to James Moody King and Ruby Alice (Goldsmith) King. He was joined by his brother Joe in February 1948. Ruby returned to North Dakota with Jim and Joe in the early 1950s. Jim attended school in the Tuttle area, joined the Army in 1965, and was honorably discharged in 1971. He then attended Wahpeton State School of Science and became a certified welder. On July 17, 1973, Jim married Barbara L. Johnson in Bismarck and they had three children, Ryan, Justin, and Nicole. They later divorced. Jim began his career with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad in 1978 and retired in 2008. At one time, he and his oldest son, Ryan, worked together, and Ryan was his father’s boss for two years. Jim was very proud of this fact. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool, going to the casino, and a mean game of pinochle. He had a unique way of remembering what cards were played. He also loved playing cribbage and chess. He made many friends wherever he went and will be greatly missed. Jim is survived by his daughter, Nicole (Jeremy) Scheurer; former spouse, Barbara King; brother, Mike Driscoll; sisters, Barb Bickel, Rheta (Perry) Larson, and Rebecca (Steve) Seehaver; sister-in-law, Linda King and her family; and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his sons, Ryan in 1999 and Justin in 2001; mother, Ruby; step-father, Gerald Driscoll; brother, Joe; and half-sister, Claudia Ann.
