Henry John Kaelberer, 87, New Salem, passed away January 22, 2017, at Elm Crest Manor.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, January 28, at Word of Life Baptist Church, New Salem, with Pastor Gaylen Lennick officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation has taken place.
Burial will be held in the spring at Graceland Cemetery, New Salem.
Henry was born February 2, 1929, to John E. Kaelberer and Hilda (Bopp) Kaelberer. He grew up on the family farm south of New Salem. On June 25, 1959 he married Carol Holle. Three children were born to them, John, Jill and Mitchell.
He ran a coal mine south of New Salem until the late 50’s, at which time he started an excavating company. He added a ready mix plant in 1960, which was later moved to Mandan. He sold to the boys in 1994 and retired at that time.
Henry’s greatest joys were, knowing Jesus as his Savior, his family, and running heavy equipment. He was a member of Word of Life Church in which he served as an elder. He served on the City Park Board for 8 years and was the Mayor of New Salem for 12 years. He volunteered for the Fire Dept. for many years.
He is survived by his wife Carol; son, John (Denise) Kaelberer; daughter, Jill (Joe) Zawierucha; son, Mitchell (Cindy) Kaelberer; six grandchildren, Andrew (Megan), Brian, Anthony and Katelyn Zawierucha, Joshua and Jeb Kaelberer; step-grandson, Shaun (Kathy) Haux; two great-grandchildren, Theo Zawierucha and Kendall Haux; sisters, Dorothy Becker, Lorraine (Roger) Fercho; one brother, Bob (Ann) Kaelberer; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, John E. Kaelberer; his young brother, Donald; his mother, Hilda Kaelberer White; and step dad, Hudson White; sister, Betty Jane and husband Paul Otte; brother-in-law, Donald Becker; and step-granddaughter, Callie Haux.
