Gregory Schommer

June 21, 1958 — February 6, 2017

Gregory John Schommer, 58, Bismarck, ND (formerly of Minot, ND) passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Monday, February 6, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the Church of St. Anne, 1321 Braman Ave, Bismarck, ND. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck, at a later date. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Friday, February 10th at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, ND, a rosary/vigil service will begin at 7:00 pm. Greg was born June 21, 1958, in Devils Lake, ND. He was the son of Anthony John and Lucia G. (Schmaltz) Schommer. He attended Little Flower Elementary School in Minot and graduated from Bishop Ryan High School with the class of ‘76. He went on to get his Associate’s Degree from Minot State in 1978. Greg married Ann Marie (Jacobs) on May 26, 1984 and they had three children; Rebecca, Sara and Daniel who were his pride and joy. They raised their family in Minot. While there, Greg worked primarily in the plumbing field. After moving to Bismarck in 2012, he worked in the warehouse setting and more recently with the City of Bismarck and the State of North Dakota. Greg loved being a dad and doing anything he could to help his kids. More recently, he thoroughly enjoyed being a Poppa to his 4 precious grandkids. He was always stopping over to help with projects or even just to say hi to the little ones! He enjoyed cooking Sunday night dinners for the whole family and will be taking some fabulous recipes with him to the grave! Greg’s biggest love, aside from his family, was the time he could spend at Strawberry Lake. This summer would’ve marked 41 summers at his much-loved Cabin 41. He was jokingly referred to as the “mayor” of the lake because of his passion for the people out there and he was always willing to lend a helping hand! He loved tinkering on random projects while listening to his loud classic rock in the garage at the cabin. If you couldn’t find him there, he was cruising around the “2 beer” lake on his pontoon, tune time, with his drink of choice, Coors Light bottles. May his waters always be calm and the mountains always be blue! He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Ann; his beloved children, Rebecca (Nathan) Davis, Sara (Brent) Hanson, and Daniel (Sarah) Schommer; his adored grandchildren, Kenley, Paislee, Ari and Linkoln; and all his siblings, Pat Schommer, Susan Hoffart, Father Michael Schommer, Mary (John) Larson and Kathi (Robert) Lemley. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law, father-in-law and several aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in Greg’s name.
