Alphonse Fitterer, 89, Tuttle, died February 13, 2017, at the Baptist Health Care Center, Bismarck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Friday, February 17, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Steele, with Rev. Jerome Hunkler officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday, February 16, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where an evening prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm.
Burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Steele.
Alphonse was born on February 1, 1928, the son of Marcus and Katherine (Ehrmantraut) Fitterer. He grew up on a farm that was located 9 miles SW of Almont. He attended country school in Olean District #26 in Morton County until the 8th grade. He was drafted into the service in November of 1950 and served in the Army in Korea. He was discharged in August of 1952. After the service, Alphonse worked at various places. He worked at the packing plant in Fargo.
On October 20, 1953, he married Antoinette Szczepanski at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Argyle, MN. They made their home in Bismarck, ND, until 1955, when they purchased the farm south of Tuttle. Over the years Alphonse built three pole barns and also their home. He farmed until retiring in 1992. In 2014, he moved to Steele.
Alphonse enjoyed working around the yard and tinkering on various projects. He also enjoyed cards, puzzles, crossword puzzles, reading, gameshows, and woodworking. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Alphonse is survived by his wife, Antoinette, Steele; 12 children, Anthony, Tuttle, Alexander, Tuttle, Alen, Menoken, Anastasia Hunter, Auburn, WA, Alric, Plano, TX, Anders, Tacoma, WA, Alane (Tim) Lawrence, Sparta, WI, Aloysius, Bismarck, Alden (Connie), Tuttle, Alvin (Diane), West Fargo, Alair (Denise), Lake Stevens, WA, Anita Fitterer, Washburn; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; siblings, Sylvester, Marian, Maggie, Florance, and Marcus; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 9 brothers and sisters, Rose, Philimina, Elizabeth, Catherine, Anna, Joseph, Regina, Eva, and Anastasia; one great-grandson; and daughter-in-law, Darlene Fitterer.
