Danie Thomssen

July 13, 1998 — February 11, 2017

Danie Leigh Thomssen, 18, died on February 11th, 2017. She was taken away from us too soon on her way back from a day spent at the Mall of America with her friends, Carson and Haley. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm -7:00 pm on Thursday, February 16, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. A prayer service and sharing of memories will begin at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 17, at the Church of Corpus Christi, 1919 N 2nd St., Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial will be held following the services at St. Mary's Cemetery with the Century Patriots ceremonial color guard. Danie was born on July 13, 1998, in Bismarck, ND. She attended school at Northridge Elementary, Horizon Middle School, and graduated in 2016 from Century High School as a Valedictorian. She was very active in band, being a member of the wind ensemble, jazz ensemble #1, playing tenor, alto, and soprano sax. She also participated in the Color Guard 'Spirit of 76.' Her CHS Patriot band family became very close, creating friendships that would forever bond her to so many special talented friends. She could often be found at home playing songs on her saxophone, flute, and most recently learning the guitar so she could eventually jam with her cousins, Austin, Parker, Zach, Jared and Tosh. She was active in Girl Scouts for 13 years, also helping to lead her sister Macie's troop. She loved working with children, teaching, leading, and inspiring. She built many special friendships with younger girls not only through Girl Scouts, but coaching youth volleyball as well. They became like family to her. She will leave a lasting impact on all the lives she touched. Most recently, she was attending school at NDSU, where she was named to the fall Dean's list, majoring in Biological Sciences with a goal to pursue Dentistry or Orthodontics. She was extremely proud to be a Bison, particularly being a member of the Gold Star Marching Band; where she was taken in as family, making her transition to college life away from home so much easier. She will now forever have a front row seat at all the Bison football, basketball, and volleyball games. Danie was a goal setter. She was constantly planning, and striving to be better. She always had her plan of action laid out in front of her. She held high standards for herself academically, musically, and personally and expected nothing less from the people around her. She was a sports enthusiast; whether she was cheering on the Bison, the Broncos, the Tar Heels or the MN Wild, she was always up for catching a game. She loved playing volleyball and often tried to round up friends or family to play and compete. She was a hockey fanatic and recently started learning how to ice skate - she loved learning new things. Danie lived for camping season. She loved the outdoors: swimming, tubing, riding jetski, and kayaking at her grandma's lake cabin. She thrived on spending time with family and joking around at the campfire. Her witty spirit, beautiful smile, and sparkling blue eyes will forever be in our hearts. Danie is survived by her parents, Wade and Glenda Thomssen, and her sister, Macie; her grandmothers, Lorraine Jelsing and Dorothy Thomssen; aunts and uncle, Gayle (Monte) Schniebel, Lori (Jim) Hager, Lona Jelsing, Wanda Herringer (Trish), Peggy Marquart (Ralph), Brenda (Bob) Reopelle, along with many very special cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandpas, William Thomssen and Roger Jelsing. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Century High School band or the NDSU Gold Star marching band.
