Catherine Lang, 93, Bismarck, died in peace and dignity as she lived on February 13, 2017, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 29, at the Dawson Community Center.Catherine Schmidt was born March 10, 1923, to Robert and Annette (Hatfield) Schmidt at Dawson, North Dakota. She attended Liberty Grade School, rural Dawson, North Dakota, and graduated from Dawson High School in 1940. After graduation, she lived in Berkley, California, with her Aunt Catherine and worked at a cannery. She returned to North Dakota, obtained a teaching certificate and taught in rural schools for 2 years. She married Gottlieb Lang on January 18, 1945. Gottlieb was stationed at Camp Schumaker in California and they lived in San Leandro where she worked as a telephone operator. They returned to North Dakota after Gottlieb was discharged from the Navy and began farming in Peace Township. In 1954 they moved to their ranch 3 miles south of Dawson where they resided for all of their married life. Gottlieb, or G.J., died in October of 1998. Cathy continued to live on the ranch until she entered Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in 2012. She was a member of the Dawson Lutheran Church and the Ladies Auxiliary and was active with G.J. in the John Birch Society and community activities. She is survived by her son, Kevin Lang; her daughters, Bonnie Ten Broek, Renee Lang and Candace Boyer; her brother, Ellis Schmidt; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Annette and Robert; her husband, G.J., daughter, Marilyn Falk; grandson, Jace Ten Broek; her brothers, Robert, Walter, Lewis, and Arne, and sisters, Evelyn Zimmerman, Ruth Eichele, Geneva Schulz, Marilyn Naish, and Jeannette Meidinger. Catherine was a quiet force in many lives. She will be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Dawson Lutheran Church, The John Birch Society, The Dawson Cemetery Association, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center or to a favorite charity.
