Alton C. Stroh, 84, Tappen, passed away at his rural Tappen home on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimers.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 25, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tappen, with Rev. Gary Juergens and Rev. William Russow officiating.
Burial will be held at Fisher Cemetery, Tappen.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday, February 23, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tappen, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm.
Alton was born January 8, 1933, at the family farm near Tappen to parents, August Sr., and Caroline (Mittleider) Stroh. He attended country school and was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enlisted in the US Army and served two years.
Alton was united in marriage to Bonney Nelson on December 4, 1960, at Tappen. They became parents to four children, Brett, Bryan, Beth, and Brent. Alton farmed and raised sheep, cattle and pigs his whole life with Bonney and his children on their farm south of Tappen.
Alton was active in the Farm Bureau, Tappen Township Board, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church serving on the Council, as President, Sunday School Teacher, and Sunday School Superintendent and was on the BEK Board of Directors. He was also in the Tappen Lions Club, the Tappen Fire Chief, participated in the Tappen Betterment Club, and had received the Sheep Producer of the Year Award.
Alton is survived by his bride of 56 years, Bonney; children, Brett and Kris Stroh, Tappen, Bryan and Karri Stroh, Tappen, Beth and Baldemar Sanchez, Auburn, WA, Brent and Barb Stroh, Tappen; grandchildren, Denise (Chris) Mills, Christine Rangeloff, Scott Stroh, Jacob Stroh, Kaylyn (Sean Woxland) Stroh, Brandon (Jessica Barron) Rangeloff, Jason (Abbi Wehling) Stroh, David Stroh, Ben Stroh, Sara (Izac Krous) Stroh, Racheal Stroh, Alec Stroh, Colton Stroh, Dillon Stroh, Kobe Stroh, and Justice Stroh; and step-great-grandson, Brandon Mills. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Hedges, WY, Emma Garner, CO, Maggie and Merlon Smith, Wheatland; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, August, Peter, Harold, John and infant Henry; and his sisters, Eva Gravesen and Katherine.
