January 20, 1933 — March 4, 2017

Helen Catherine “Kay” Comford passed away on March 4, 2017, at CHI St. Alexius Hospital. A private family service will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place. She was born to John and Otilia Oien on a farm near Grenora, ND on January 20, 1933, and was raised in Grenora and graduated high school there. On June 10, 1950, she married Dash W. Comford. Dash and Kay lived in Minot where Dash worked for the US Bureau of Reclamation, and later moved to Grenora for Dash’s employment at the John Deere dealership. They moved to Wildrose, ND in the early 1960’s where Dash owned the International Harvester Dealership until retirement in 1990. Kay was a stay at home mom and housewife, and together they raised four children in Wildrose. They moved to Williston in 1997, and to Bismarck in 2011. Kay loved to play pinochle, fish, play “31” for quarters and be at their beloved cabin at White Earth Bay on Lake Sakakawea. Her life’s work was being the anchor that was always there for her husband and family. Kay is survived by her son, Dash (Greg) and daughter-in-law, Michelle; son, John and daughter-in-law Valya; daughter, Peggy and son-in law, Ron Stromstad. She is also survived by six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law Marcy and Jerry Burling, and several nephews and nieces. Those preceding her in death include her husband of nearly 65 years, Dash, and son Steve Comford.
