Viola Anderson, 99, Bismarck, died March 23, 2017, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, March 27, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1402 E. Avenue C, Bismarck, with Pastor Sylvia Bull and Pastor Jon Splichal Larson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Viola was born July 18, 1917, near Fordville, ND, the daughter of Severt and Thelma Louise (Kavik) Howe. She was raised and educated in Fordville and later in Park River, ND. Viola married Melvin Anderson on December 28, 1942, at Sydney, MT. During World War II, she accompanied her husband to New Haven, CT, and to Harligen, TX. She then moved back to Fordville while Lt. Anderson served overseas in Europe. After the war, the family lived in the North Dakota communities of Coleharbor, Crosby, and Minot. In 1958, they moved to Bismarck where her husband was employed as an engineer by the Federal Highway Administration until he retired in 1974. Viola was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church Women’s Circle, the Friendship Circle, taught Sunday School for several years in Bismarck, and did volunteer work at a local hospital. Viola is survived by her son, Donald Anderson, Bismarck; her daughter, Elaine Anderson, Mandan; her brothers, Art Howe and Hilmer Howe; her brother-in-law, Lee Wood; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin in March of 1994; five sisters; and three brothers.
