Joyce Vettel, 83, Bismarck, passed away quietly in her sleep on April 29, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck, with Rev. Msgr. Thomas Richter officiating. Burial will be at the ND Veterans Cemetery. A family gathering will be held at 6:00 PM on Monday followed by a vigil service at 7:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck.Joyce Worle was born on November 8, 1933, in Superior, WI, the daughter of Emil and Mary Worle. She spent most of her childhood in Staples, MN. Upon graduation, Joyce moved to Bismarck in 1951 to live with her sister, Lorraine. It is in Bismarck that Joyce met the love of her life, Loren Vettel. They were married on January 10, 1953, and raised five children in Bismarck. Joyce had a special place in her heart for all of her children and grandchildren. Joyce's Catholic church life was very important to her. She worked in the church office at Corpus Christi Parish, was a Cathedral Eucharist minister who delivered communion to shut-ins, and was a member of the Cathedral Alter Society. Joyce loved spending time with family and friends, playing bridge, traveling the world, trying new cuisines and drinking good wine, especially with her friends, Lil and Bev. She befriended everyone she met and embraced every child brought into her life. She instilled in her children and grandchildren a sense of community service and an appreciation of the splendid diversity of this world. Joyce is survived by her children, Lissa (Tommy) Weathers of Roanoke, AL, Steve (Brian) of San Francisco, CA, Joe (Jennifer) of San Diego, CA, Stacy (Mud) Berven of Vergas, MN, and Mike (Rebecca) of Bismarck; her grandchildren, Larkin, April, Rannon, Joel, Genevieve, Abby, Shane, Deirdre, Savanah, Sterling, and Rena; and her great-grandchildren, Tori, Triniti, Braxton, Rawley, Callan, Bentley, and Brevyn.She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren, and her grandson, KC.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, 406 W.
