Al was born in Napoleon, ND, on December 4, 1925, to John and Eva (Rohrich) Reis. The family lived in Braddock, Linton, and Moffit before moving to Bismarck in 1937. Al attended Wachter Grade School and Bismarck High School. He married Ruby Zeretzke on February 5, 1946, and two children were born from this union, Karen and Kevin. Al married Adeline Hendrickson on July 24, 1981. During his work years, Al was employed with Dakota Hide and Fur, Coca-Cola, Golden West Laundry, Capital Laundry, and Deluxe Cleaners. Al was a member of St. Anne’s Church and was very proud of his catholic faith. As a young man, Al was an altar boy at the country church they attended and talked about things that would happen during mass, such as the twine coming lose and he stumbled and dropped the bible behind the priest! Al was a member of the Eagles Club and Musicians Association. He served in the Army from 1946 – 1949 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, as a member of the Army Band. Al loved music. He was a member of the Army Band, Elks Band, and played clarinet and saxophone with several dance bands in the Bismarck area. At one time, Al counted the number of accordion players he’d played with and it was approximately 32. He enjoyed working in his yard and watching St. Mary’s football, Notre Dame and the Packers. Al was especially proud of his family.

Al is survived by his wife, Adeline “Adi”; children, Karen (Jim) Lindbery and Kevin (Marilyn), all of Florida; his stepchildren, DuWayne (JoAnn) Hendrickson, Minot, and Sharon Thimgan, ID; step-daughter-in-law, Reane Hendrickson; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren with one due in May.
