Albon Schmidt

August 4, 1926 — October 8, 2019

Albon "Red" Schmidt, Age 83, of Bismarck passed away October 8, 2019. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 14, 11:00 AM, at Parkway Funeral Service 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck with Rev. Perry Schnabel officiating. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be held on Monday, October 14, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

He was born to Walter and Allie Schmidt in Elgin, ND on August 4, 1936.  Albon graduated from Bismarck High School in 1955 and in 1958 he joined the ND National Guard where he belonged for 9 years. He spent many years working for the Werner's then Wonnenberg's at B&J Service and made many friends along the way. He was best known as “Red.” He seemed to know everyone in town and they were all his "real good friends." Albon was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

Albon loved being a member of the Bismarck Rural Fire Department and had been a member for 40 years. He was so proud to serve as a board member in his later years and loved spending time with his Fire Dept family.

When he wasn't busy helping or being helped by a neighbor or a friend, Albon enjoyed camping, fishing, taking pictures of wildlife, nature, tractors and all kinds of events he would attend. He spent many hours in his shop woodworking and sold many of his works at the farmers markets he frequented.

Albon had a love for dogs and was passionate about adopting his furry friends from the Humane Society, making sure to give these deserving pets a loving home.  Anywhere that Albon went, his best friend was also along for the ride. When he entered an assisted living facility, he was so happy that his Lucky had found a wonderful new home that had a big fenced in yard and another furry playmate to welcome him!

Albon is survived by his sister, Amelia Caussyn, Mandan; his brother-in-law Willis (Bill) Wittig of Huson, MT; nieces and nephews Renee( Richard) Gist, Julie (Ricky) Hohbein, Joe Wittig, Rick Caussyn, Linda (Brian) Salem, Cindy (Terry) Rainforth; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Marjorie Schmidt and Dorothy Wittig; his brother-in-law George Caussyn, nephew James “Jimmy” Wittig and his great-nephew Lucas Rainforth.
