Alice Eckroth, 82, of Bismarck, ND passed away peacefully in her home on January 18th, 2024. Alice was a loving, caring, and thoughtful mother, spouse, sister, friend, and grandparent who enjoyed working on crafts and playing cards with friends and family.
Alice was born in Hazelton, ND on April 30th, 1941 to Joseph and Barbara Landsberger. She was the third child of five of this union. Alice attended country schools in Hazelton and Linton before graduating from Bismarck High School in 1959. Alice had always dreamed of being a nurse and was passionate about taking care of people, but throughout the years she found other ways to give back to others. She worked at Brown’s Grocery store, where she was set up to go on a blind date with one of her co-workers' brothers, Louis Frenzel. They soon were engaged on Valentine's Day and were married on June 11th in 1960 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In 1961, their first daughter Sandra was born and in 1964 their second daughter Sheila was born. Alice then worked for Bismarck Public Schools as a cook until 1979. Then started a new adventure of purchasing farmland near Dickinson, ND where she became a farm wife and helped with the dairy operation. Upon Louis’s death in 1984, Alice moved back to Bismarck and later married Albert Eckroth in 1986 in Coeur D'alene, ID. She worked again for Bismarck Public Schools as a cook until her retirement. She became a devoted caregiver to her second husband until his death in 2016.
Alice had many family and friends who would talk to her on a weekly or daily basis. For fun, she enjoyed playing pinochle and various card games with her friends and family. She spent a total of 45 years partaking in Birthday Club playing for quarters, dimes, and dice games. Alice was always resistant to learning new technology but was interested in looking up information. She would always ask someone to “google” things for her when feeling curious. Alice loved to spoil her grandchildren, whether it be creating favorite shapes or animals while making pancakes or serving ice cream for breakfast. She always looked forward to the arrival of new grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and welcomed everybody’s pets into her home, especially dogs.
