Allen “Jake” Jacobson, 67, Bismarck, passed away August 10, 2017, following a two-month battle with lung cancer at Sanford Health, Bismarck.Services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, August 15, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Dale Nabben officiating.Burial will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.Jake was born on October 6, 1949, in Chicago, IL. He grew up in Valley City, ND, and was raised by his parents, Arthur and Lillian Jacobson. He joined the US Army on November 29, 1966, and served for two years as a combat medic during Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Jake worked multiple trades throughout his life. He was an insurance salesman, custodian, and dishwasher, to name a few. He mostly enjoyed the people he met and appreciated the friendships he gained.Although he loved to socialize and have a few beers and laughs with friends, nothing made him smile bigger than his three grandsons. Jake will be dearly missed by many.Jake is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kelby and Kevin, and their children, Levi, Max, and Emmet Hovey; his nephews, Scott (Tracy) Jacobson and Jeff (Helen) Mathison; his best friend, Gerald “Andy” Anderson; and numerous others whom he loved like family.Jake was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lillian; and his brothers, Arthur and Arlen.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the ND Veterans Cemetery, 1825 46th St., Mandan, ND, 58554.
