Alverna Werner

Alverna Werner, 85, of Bismarck, passed away on December 14, 2023.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Church of Corpus Christi, 1919 N 2^nd St., Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 5:00PM – 7:00PM with a vigil service starting at 7:00PM, Wednesday, December 20 at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck. Interment at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Alverna “Vernie” Werner was born on December 23, 1937 to Joseph and Christine (Brandt) Kottenbrock. The youngest of six children, she attended St. Clements Grade School in Haymarch, ND and went on to Saint Mary’s High School in Richardton ND, graduating in 1956.

On May 2, 1959, she married her soulmate and best friend, George Werner at St. Clements Church in Haymarch. Together they owned and operated Werner’s Standard Service in Bismarck. Later becoming Werner Conoco Service. She also worked as a hostess for what was the Ramkota Hotel for almost 30 years.

Vernie loved all animals, her latest being her dog, Buddy and made sure her squirrels were fed on a daily basis. She was an avid reader and a very faithful, spiritual lady.

She is survived by four children, Danette Steen, Bismarck, Joleen (Bob) Fairbairn, Ft. Collins CO., Charles (Lori) Werner of W. Jordan Utah, and Jon (Shari) Werner, Bismarck; grandchildren, Joshua, Jayson and Jacob Steen, Alex and Rachel Fairbairn, Krisi Werner Harris and Anthony (Holly) Werner.

Vernie was preceded in death by her husband, George; son, Jonathan, both parents and all of her siblings.
