Alvin R. Klaus, 90, Bismarck, died October 18, 2018. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, October 22, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1402 East Avenue C, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM Sunday, October 21, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 East Divide Ave., Bismarck. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Alvin was born on March 16, 1928, in Zap, ND, son of Reinhold and Toleda (Buechler) Klaus. He was raised and educated in Zap. At the age of 16, Alvin enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in WWII and the Korean Conflict; he was stationed on the USS Silverstein, a destroyer escort and the USS Alabama, a battleship. Alvin was proud of his military service. He married the love of his life, Lois Knuth, in November 1949. They were married 65 years and raised three daughters. Alvin worked as a lineman for the Department of Energy until his retirement in January 1988. He was an avid outdoorsman. God’s beauty in nature was a wonder to him and he enjoyed sharing it with others. Al and Lois were charter members of Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, where Al was active in the men’s group and also helped to renovate the Camp of the Cross in Garrison. Al enjoyed traveling with Lois throughout the 50 states in their airstream. They were very active in the Airstream ND Chapter. The most important thing in Al’s life was his family. Those who knew and loved him always felt safe in his arms. Al is survived by his three daughters, Raye (Tim Fast), Bismarck, LeeAnn (Craig Olson), Glenburn, ND, Carol Aldridge (Kendall Brandt), Towner, ND; seven grandchildren, Amy (Levi Liepke), Brian Fast, Lacie (Matt Maresh), Levi (Ash Olson), Brett (Emily Olson), Cole (Jenny Aldridge), Sheldon Aldridge; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Delora Nathan, Mesa, AZ, and Mardella Aandrud, Beulah, ND. Al was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; his parents, Reinhold and Toleda Klaus; and his brothers, Leroy and Calvin.
