Alvina Broste

April 11, 1933 — March 3, 2021

Alvina Broste, 87, Bismarck, ND, passed away on March 3, 2021, at Edgewood on Dominion, Bismarck.

A family celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Sunne Lutheran Church, Wilton, with Rev. Paul Schauer officiating.  The service may be viewed via the Facebook page for Sunne Lutheran Church.

Burial will take place this summer at Sunne Lutheran Cemetery, Wilton.

Alvina was born April 11, 1933 in Cleveland, ND, the daughter of Rudolph and Magdalena (Gunsch) Schlecht.  In 1938, the family moved to the Gunsch family farm southeast of Medina, ND.  Alvina was one of eight children:  five brothers, Gideon, Clarence, Walter, Reuben, and Alvin; two sisters, Leona, and Hilda, her twin.

Alvina graduated from Medina High School in 1951.  She moved to Bismarck, ND to work at the State Capital Building.

Alvina married John Broste on December 18, 1955, at Medina, ND.  Alvina and John farmed near Regan for 40 years.  Alvina was a youth leader for the local 4-H club, a member of the local homemakers’ club, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of Sunne Lutheran Church.  Alvina was a woman of many talents.  She was a skilled artist, musician, seamstress, quilt maker, and doll maker.  She was known for her extensive doll collection.  Many have been blessed by her creations.

Alvina is survived by her children, Noel (Lois) Broste, Fargo, ND, and Michael (Cindy) Kaine, Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Jon (Tasha) and Eli Kaine, Shellsburg, IA; great-granddaughter, Macy, Shellsburg, IA; sister, Leona Moser, Bismarck, ND; brothers-in-law, Nels (Sally) Broste, Whitefish, MT, and William “Bill” Broste, Haines, AK; and several nieces and nephews.

Alvina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; her brothers and their wives, Gideon(Viola), Clarence (Lorine), Walter (Darlene), Reuben (Lillian), and Alvin (Arlene); her twin sister, Hilda (and husband Trent Limbacher); her sisters-in-law, Judi Broste, and Henrietta Strandjord (and husband Rolf); brother-in-law, Marvin Moser; and her nephew, Skip Broste.
