Anthony “Tony” Cyril Karsky, 83, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2018, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck, ND. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 26, at the Church of St. Anne, 1321 Braman Ave., Bismarck, with Deacon Jerry Volk officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 pm Monday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, March 25, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 East Divide Ave., Bismarck, where a vigil service will begin at 6:00 pm. Tony was born on July 29, 1934, on the family farm near New Hradec, ND, to Anton J. and Anna (Kudrna) Karsky. He attended St. Peter and Paul Church elementary school in New Hradec through 8th grade and graduated from Model High School, Dickinson, ND, in 1953. On May 1, 1957, he married Arlene Mayer at St. Stephen's Church south of Richardton, ND. He worked construction until he started his career in the lumber industry. He was employed at Heaton Lumber Co., Dickinson, ND, for two years. He served in the US Army from 1958 to 1960, with Combat Support Co. BG 47th Infantry, he was honorably discharged with the rank of PF SP4 at Fort Lewis, WA. He worked at Hanson Lumber Co., Beach, ND, in 1960 and 1961. In 1962 he began his career with C.H. Carpenter Lumber Co., Jamestown, ND, as a draftsman/salesman and later held the position of sales manager. In 1982, he was named manager, a position he had for 17 years until his retirement in July 1999, after 41 years in the lumber business. He was active in the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the ND Retail Lumber Association. He served four years on the Board of Directors of the association and was awarded the ND Retail Dealer of the year in 1990. He served on the National Homebuilders Association of ND Board of Directors and was president of the Jamestown Homebuilders Association. Tony was a member and past president of the Jamestown Lions Club, member of the Elks, American Legion and Catholic Workman. Tony was a member of the Basilica of St. James Catholic Church until he and Arlene relocated to Bismarck to be closer to family. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, golfing, traveling and reading western novels. Tony is survived by his wife; four sons, Dean (Joan), Bismarck, Bryan (Cheryl) Tampa, FL, Keith (Susan), Sartell, MN, and Jason (Jill), Wayne, NE; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bertha Bren and Mary Kolling, both of Dickinson; and one brother, Dennis (Arlene), Oaklawn, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers; sisters, Gertrude Buresh, Georgia Schmaltz, Clara Munsch and Martha Karsky; and five brothers-in-law, Anton Buresh, Joe Kolling, Albert Bren, Martin Schmaltz and Rueben Munsch.
