Anton J. “Tony” Steiner passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019, at CHI St. Alexius in Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8, at the Church of St. Mary, 806 E Broadway Ave, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck. A rosary/vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Burial will be held on Friday, November 8, at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck.
Tony was born on April 21, 1929 in Stark County, ND, to John B. and Barbara (Berger) Steiner. He grew up 18 miles south of Richardton, ND and attended St. Placidus Church. He farmed with his father until moving to Bismarck in 1956. On October 16, 1956, Tony married Arlene Koch at the Church of St. Mary in Bismarck. They were members of the Church of St. Mary where Tony served as an usher, Eucharistic Minister, and as a Parish Council member. He was a member of Eagle’s Club, and cooked sausage for the Home On The Range breakfasts. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #1604, where he also helped with many breakfasts. For over 40 years, he enjoyed helping in the kitchen and with BINGO during St. Mary’s Central High School Carnival Days. He also volunteered at Open Your Heart for to close to 60 years. He enjoyed dancing and spending time with his family. Tony worked in the Sheet Metal trade for 37 and a half years, working in local shops and at all the power plants in North Dakota. He also worked at the Dakota Gasification Plant at Beulah, the Malting Plant in Spiritwood, ND, and the Fargodome. He was a member of the UCT. During his leisure time, Tony was a handyman, mechanic, plumber, and enjoyed fixing things. He worked almost 15 years doing maintenance for Morris Tschider apartments.
Tony was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by his family and many good friends. He is survived by his wife, Arlene Steiner; daughters, Barbara and Bonita; son, Blaine, all of Bismarck; two sisters, Rose Jahner, Missoula, MT, and Marie (Hugh) Neidiffer, Auburn, WA; sister-in-law, Eva Steiner, Twin Falls, ID; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Barbara Steiner; brother, Lawrence; brother-in-law, Mike Jahner; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jacob and Barbara Koch.
In honor of Tony, memorials may be sent to St Mary’s Church or Light of Christ Catholic Schools.
