Arlene Mae Karsky, 81, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2020, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 17, at the Church of St. Anne, 1321 Braman Ave, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 16, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck. A rosary/vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, at the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Arlene was born November 19, 1938, in Richardton, ND, to Tony and Katherine (Wehner) Mayer. She attended grade school and high school in Dickinson, ND. After graduation she was employed by Reichert and Reichert Law Firm in Dickinson. On May 1, 1957 she married Anthony (Tony) Karsky at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in rural Richardton, ND. She lived in Dickinson until February, 1959, when she moved to Olympia, WA, to join her husband who was serving in the US Army stationed in Fort Louis, WA. In 1960 they moved to Beach, ND, where Tony started his career in the lumber business. They later moved to Jamestown in 1962 when Tony took a position with C. H. Carpenter Lumber Co. They resided in Jamestown for 42 years until they moved to Bismarck in 2015 to be closer to family. Arlene started her career in banking when she went to work for Stutsman County State Bank (now Unison Bank) in August, 1975. She started as a teller advancing to the position of customer service representative in 1988. She was named director of the Good Neighbor Club program in 1997. She was promoted to assistant vice-president/ Good Neighbors Club, a position she held until her retirement in December, 2000. Arlene and Tony were married for almost 61 years and spent their retirement years visiting family and friends, traveling around the US and Canada and volunteering for various local organizations. Arlene was a member of the Basilica of St. James Catholic Church and our Lady of Lourdes Circle, Jamestown. She was a volunteer at the church and the Jamestown Hospital and enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening, reading and crocheting.
She is survived by her four sons; Dean (Joan) Bismarck, ND; Bryan (Cheryl), Tampa, FL; Keith (Susan), Sartell, MN; Jason (Jill) Wayne, NE; one sister, Janeen (Robert) Scheeler, Minot, ND; one brother, Kenneth (Diane) Mayer, Mobridge, SD; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony (Tony) Karsky, her sister LaVonne Ficek and her parents.
