Arlow Bien, 80, Bismarck, passed away peacefully in his sleep with the love of his life by his side on June 23, 2019, at St. Vincent Care Center.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, June 27, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 1143 N 26th St., Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Wednesday, June 26, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm.
Burial will be at 3:00 pm Thursday, June 27, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
Arlow was born on November 10, 1938, the son of Oscar and Dorothea (Schultz) Bien. He married Kathy, the love of his life, on November 10, 1979, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown. Arlow drove truck for 40 years, totaling 4.5 million miles on the road. He worked for Gabor Trucking of Detroit Lakes, MN, Art Koehler Trucking of Audubon, MN, Foltz Trucking of Detroit Lakes, Twin City Freight of St. Paul, MN, later transferring to Bismarck T.C.F., Midwest Motor Express, and J-Mar, hauling for Conlin’s Furniture, all out of Bismarck. He retired from trucking in 2004. In 2006, he went to work for south Walmart of Bismarck, where he was currently employed.
Arlow enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing. He loved camping with family and friends; the last camping trip took he and Kathy out to Kalispell, MT, to see Flathead Lake and Glacier National Park. Arlow loved to tinker, you could usually find him in his garage working on something Arlowizing it! He was always up to watching sports on TV, especially the Twins and Vikings. He also enjoyed playing Farkle on Friday nights with Kathy and Alvin and Linda Skager.
Arlow is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kathy; four daughters, Connie Bien, New York Mills, MN, Michele (Ron) Jansen, Lake Park, MN, Lisa Fortner, Suffolk, VA, and Amanda (Bill) Pudwill, Lincoln, ND; nine grandchildren, Natasha, Jason (Becky), Christopher (Katie), Nicholas, Tiffany, Logan, McKenna, Mia, and Kendra; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tristin, Caleb, Ella, and Ava; his siblings, Evonne Meyhoff, Caradell Richter, Janet (Paul) Cincush, Ranae Sexton, Warren (Kathleen) Bien, Corrine Munson; brother-in-law, Wally Schock; his special buddy Tucker (his granddaughter McKenna’s puppy); and numerous nieces, nepehws, and lifetime friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothea and Oscar; his stepfather, Frank; sisters, Karen (Vick) Maynard, Diane (Dan) Rennie; infant brother, Donald Bien; brothers-in-law, Melvin Meyhoff, Leon Richter, and Roger Sexton; and in-laws, Bill and Rachel Schock.
