Armin enlisted in the US Army in 1954 and was with the 5th Infantry Division where he served as an engineer and interpreter with Company A of the 7th Engineer Battalion in Munich, Germany.  While there, Armin met Sylvia Laura Schmidberger.  They were married in 1956 and made their home in Mandan where Armin began his career with law enforcement.  He was employed with the Mandan PD until they moved to Minot in 1961 where Armin began a 35 year career with the Minot PD.  After Armin retired as a police LT, he worked for 11 years as Court Security for the US Marshal Service in Bismarck.

Armin was active within numerous organizations.  He was a committee member of the ND State Fair Parade for several years, worked with the Miss USA Pageants for numerous years, and was a life member of the VFW and the ND Peace Officers Association.  One of Armin's fondest law enforcement memories was serving as security for former President Reagan and receiving a personalized photo and official cuff links from him.  He often talked about providing Folk Fest entertainers such as Tammy Wynett with security.  Armin had a beautiful bass voice and sang with the Bismarck-Mandan Gospel Singers for many years.  He also enjoyed traveling to Europe and touring the National Parks in the US with his golden lifetime pass.

In November 1998, Sylvia passed away.  He married Johanna Larson in May 2000 and lived in Bismarck since.
