Arnold “Arnie” L. Miller, 88, Bismarck, passed away peacefully August 4, 2018, at the Baptist Health Care Center, Bismarck, with his daughter, Karen, by his side. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 11, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Arnie was born February 13, 1930, at his parent’s home in Turtle Lake, ND, to Fred and Mabel (Pomranke) Miller. He attended and graduated from Turtle Lake school and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After completion of his training at a base in San Diego, he served aboard the USS Suisun which traveled to various ports in the US and overseas. After his Navy service, he attended Minot State College and later was employed as a bookkeeper and parts manager for various auto and implement dealerships in Turtle Lake, Underwood, and Indio, CA. After returning to North Dakota from California he took the position as a “paymaster” for a construction firm, that had a part in the building of the Garrison Dam project. After the project completion he attended the North Dakota State School of Science taking the plumbing, HTG./CLG. and pipefitting trade. He became a member of the Plumbers/Pipefitters Union, L.U. 795 and worked at various construction sites in other states. While working on the “Titan Missle” project in Rapid City, SD, he met and married Diana Skalsky and made their home in Sturgis, SD. Their first child, Keith, was born in Deadwood, SD. At the completion of his employment in South Dakota, they moved back to North Dakota where he was employed with Honeywell Inc., as a control instrument technician in the western ND area. The company transferred them to the Fargo office area for one year. While living in Fargo, their daughter Karen, was born. They moved back to Bismarck in 1965, where Arnie worked for Honeywell until his retirement in 1992. Arnold was a member of the Eagles, Moose, Amvets, life-member of the VFW, charter and retired member of ABATE of ND, Freedom Riders Motorcycle Club and the “Rusty Pipes” (retired pipefitters organization). He was also a member of the U.A. Local Union #300 Plumbers and Pipefitters. Arnold is survived by his son, Keith, Chanhassen, MN; his daughter, Karen (Rob) Meltzer, Mandan; granddaughters, Nicole (Eric) Terras, Fargo, Samantha Leno, Los Angeles, and Jessica (Luke) Soland, Fargo; great-granddaughter, Nora Terras; brother, Norman Miller, Turtle Lake; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diana; his father, Fred; his mother, Mabel; and his in-laws, Frank and Elizabeth Skalsky.
