Barbara D. Clemens

Barbara D. Clemens, 90, of Bismarck passed away on April 8, 2019 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 19, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place.

Barbara was born September 10, 1928 to Carl and Esther (Larson) Barneck in Bismarck ND. Her father died at a young age and her mother raised Barbara and her sister while working, relying on assistance from the girls’ grandparents. Barbara had many fond memories of her grandparents, John and Bertha Larson. She graduated from Bismarck High School in 1946, then attended Bismarck Junior College.  She was united in marriage to James P. Murdoch in Anchorage Alaska on July 7, 1948. They made their home in McGrath Alaska for several years while Jim worked for the Civil Aeronautics Administration. In late 1950 they moved back to Bismarck, where they raised their family.

Barbara received her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Mary in 1971. She worked for the John Larson Company and Electronic Center, then finished her career with the North Dakota Employment Security Bureau (now Job Service). Barbara married Boyd Clemens in 1981, and besides enjoying reading and fishing, she and Boyd traveled across the United States every summer in their fifth-wheel camper, visiting friends and family. During the winter months they made their home in Apache Junction, Arizona.  Barb and Boyd returned to Bismarck in 2013, making their home first at the Primrose Retirement Community, then at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.

She is survived by her son, Marshall (Marilyn) Murdoch of Bismarck; her daughters, Lynn (Paul) Larson of South Elgin Illinois, and Janet (James) Geltel of Williston North Dakota; her step-daughters, Sharon (Jerry) Dowhy and Judy Pedersen of Bismarck; her grandchildren, Kristin (Larry) Larson, James (Stephanie) Murdoch, Richard (Carina Wong) Larson, James Larson, Brent (Katie) Larson, Eric (Beth McCubbin) Larson, Kathryn (Michael) Shatto, Beth (David) Hokanson, Ryan (Tara) Geltel, and Allen (Emily Ramage) Geltel and eleven great-grandchildren. Barbara is also survived by nephews and nieces, Scott Constans, Susan Saxvik Lawrence, Jeff Saxvik, Leanne Saxvik Samuelson, and Greg Saxvik.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Beverly Barneck Constans;a brother-in-law, George M. Constans; a niece, Peggy Constans Coy; a nephew, George M. Constans III; and both husbands.

Memorials for Barbara can be directed to the Scottish Rite Speech Therapy Center for Children (Box 2094, Bismarck ND 58502) or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks and express appreciation for the wonderful care that Barbara received at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. They are truly a compassionate and caring facility.
