Beckie (Dockter) Strege

Beckie (Dockter) Strege, 56, Bismarck, died March 10, 2018. Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, March 16, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 615 E. Turnpike Ave., Bismarck, with Rev. Jonathan Walla officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday, March 15, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 6:30 pm. There will be no visitation on Friday as the cremation will have taken place. Rebecca “Beckie” was born on February 28, 1962, to Jacob and Joyce (Hieb) Dockter in Turtle Lake, ND. She grew up on the family farm outside McClusky and graduated from McClusky High School in 1980. Beckie worked in banking in McClusky and Bismarck, and met Kevin Strege at work. Beckie and Kevin were married on May 2, 1992, and have made their home and their lives in Bismarck. They were blessed with children; Kristine Rebecca born in 1995, and Matthew James in 1997. Beckie alternated working and being a stay-at-home mom as the kids grew up, with her role as mom being the most rewarding. She worked at various times at a law firm, school library, and since 2015 for the State of ND – as a legislative clerk, at the Tax Department, and most recently at the Department of Trust Lands. In every job she was valued for her hard work, commitment, and the sparkle she brought to those around her. Beckie was intense about her roles and passions, whether job, cooking, politics, fitness and nutrition, or her faith, she read, researched, tested, and discussed to become deeply knowledgeable.  The YMCA was her “me time” to advance her fitness and socialize with the many friends she made over her years in Bismarck. Politics was also social and many trusted and loved friends came through her involvement. Her children were her greatest joy, and her time as a stay-at-home mom her greatest achievement, supporting them in academics, sports, and many, many musical events from youth to adulthood. Beckie is survived by her husband, Kevin Strege, Bismarck, ND; her children, Kristine Strege (fiancé Jake Schmitz) Belfry, MT, and Matthew Strege, Moorhead, MN; her mother, Joyce Dockter, Mobridge, SD; her siblings, Lyn (Curt) Krecklau, Bismarck, ND, Craig (Kathy) Dockter, Mobridge, SD; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Jacob Dockter. The family would like to thank their extended family and many caring friends and co-workers, past and present, for their amazing support in this time of need.
