Benjamin Mittleider, 88, Tappen, passed away October 22, 2024. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 30 at Cornerstone Church, Tappen. Family will greet guests one hour prior.
Burial will be held at Fisher Cemetery, Tappen.
Benjamin Mittleider was born February 16, 1936, on the family farm south of Tappen. He was educated in a country school about a mile away from the family home. He married Grace Wilson on May 29, 1966, and to this union, two daughters were born, Noa Lee in 1966, and Wendy Marie in 1971. He took over the family farm at a young age, residing there until moving to the Wentz Living Center in June 2024. Benjamin never lost his love for the farm.
Benjamin was a strong, quiet, humble man, ready to help anyone in need and never complained. He was an angel on earth, taking exclusive care of Grace for several years while she struggled with dementia and diabetic issues, until her passing in February 2018. He missed her deeply.
Benjamin had a strong need to “fix” things. He would not buy something unless he could fix it when necessary. Even though his memory was fleeting at the end, it did not stop his need to desire to fix things. In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to polkas, attending auctions, and playing BINGO.
Benjamin is survived by two daughters, Noa (Brice) Barnick of Tappen, North Dakota and Wendy Russell of Fort Myers, Florida; four grandchildren, Austin Russell, Jodi (Shannon) Reardon, Derek (Shauna) Barnick, Allison (Eric) Goetz; seven great-grandchildren, Carter, Harper and Cadence Reardon, Ashton and Gracie Barnick, Avery and Easton Goetz. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Mittleider and Fredricka Mittleider; his wife, Grace; five brothers, Gideon, Leonard, Bernard, Johnny, Harold, and one sister Anna.
