Bernetta “Berni” Haman was born to Rudy and Elizabeth (Wangler) Axtman on December 10, 1940, in Rugby, ND. She was raised and educated in the Rugby area and graduated from Rugby High School in 1958. On December 10, 1960, Bernetta married Alfred Haman, the love of her life in Balta, ND. They moved to Minot in 1962 and raised their family in Minot.
She enjoyed sewing, dancing, playing cards, and spending time at Lake Sakakawea with family and friends, boating, water skiing, playing horseshoes and the bonfires. Berni really enjoyed her family. She was a hairstylist; she worked part-time until 1974. Berni bought the Carousel Hairstyling Salon and enjoyed styling hair so much she started Berni's Hair Designers in 1980, a full-service salon. Berni loved what she was doing. The highlight of her career was to style Princess Astrid's hair five times in four days with a guard at the door. Princess Astrid was in Minot for Hostfest and is the daughter of King Olav of Norway. Berni also had the privilege to have her two daughters, Arlette and Carla, join her at the salon, it was several years of enjoyment working together. Berni retired early due to health-related issues.
Berni was raised Catholic and wanted to become more spiritual. On May 29, 2003, she went to the Missionary Servants of Holy Love Shrine in Cleveland, Ohio and she had a healing which made her life much easier. Berni started the Rosary of the Unborn at Corpus Christi and also a spiritual prayer group in her home after she attended a Life in the Spirit Seminar. She had a very deep faith throughout her life. One of her greatest joys was praying for comfort and spiritual healing for others.
The final years of her life were a happy time, spending time with her family and married to the love of her life for sixty-two years.
