Bernice Lucy Utter

Bernice Lucy Utter, 92, formerly of New Leipzig, ND passed away on December 11, 2023, at the Missouri Slope Hillview Nursing Home in Bismarck, ND.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1402 E Ave C, Bismarck, ND. Family will begin greeting guests one hour prior to the service.

Bernice was born on March 20, 1931, at the Bismarck hospital to Gottlieb and Molly (Bellon) Moos. She attended school until eighth grade and then began working full-time at the Elgin Drugstore.

On October 16, 1949, Bernice married Harold Utter at the Zion Lutheran Church in Elgin, ND. They were a hard-working couple on the farm and enjoyed a Saturday night out visiting friends and dancing. Bernice moved to Bismarck, after Harolds passing in 1989.

One of Bernice's greatest joys was partaking in her lifelong hobbies. Cooking brought out her creativity in the kitchen as she delighted family and friends with her delicious meals. The grandchildren loved to visit with her enjoying delicious caramel rolls, kuchen and cookies. Grandma’s humor and good-natured teasing is a cherished memory for us all. Her talents extended to crocheting, knitting, quilting, and even jewelry shopping. Each stitch she crafted reflected her passion and attention to detail.

Bernice is survived by her four sons: Raymond Utter, Bismarck; Russell (Lori) Utter, Sidney, MT; Rodney (Rita) Utter, West Fargo, ND; and Todd (Linda) Utter, Sidney, MT; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold; her parents and sisters Leonna Moos, Tina Thomas, Adeline Baesler, Violet Johnson and brother, Ruben Moos.

As we bid farewell to Bernice, let us celebrate a life well-lived and honor the legacy she leaves behind. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
