Bryan Thomas, 38, Bismarck, passed away April 25, 2024.
A memorial service to honor Bryan’s beautiful soul will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 7 at House of Prayer, Bismarck. Family will greet guests one hour prior at the church.
Bryan was born on August 21, 1985 to Rayne (Duppong) and Allan Thomas in Bismarck. He was raised and educated in Bismarck, graduating with the BHS Class of ’04. He attended some college classes at Bismarck State College.
Bryan held many roles in various careers throughout his life. He started working at a young age, first bussing tables at the Elks. He took a second job at Advanced Mechanical – working there in the mornings and at the Elks in the evenings. He also worked at Dvorak Motors for a while. For a short time, Bryan detailed cars. He loved his vehicles, and took great pride in their appearance.
His employment at the Bistro was by far his longest career. In a Facebook post after Bryan’s passing, the Bistro said, “…Having been such a big part of his life for many years, we share in the pain and sorrow of his early departure…. Forever our friend, forever we’ll love you.” Bryan loved and cared for his Bistro Family so deeply. Many happy memories were made at the Bistro.
Bryan’s family described him as an “extroverted introvert.” He absolutely loved spending time with people, but he really enjoyed spending time by himself. One of Bryan’s favorite coffee cups said, “It’s too people-y out here for me.” He had an infectious smile, and was always there to lend a helping hand to those who needed it. Bryan loved animals, and had a special place in his heart for his dog, Kirby. Bryan’s family takes comfort in knowing the two are reunited in heaven.
Every year, Bryan looked forward to the 4th of July. The whole neighborhood waited for his firework display, and he often couldn’t wait until it got dark to start the show! Fireworks brought out Bryan’s inner child, and sometimes he’d have a little too much fun. His family would often have to remind him, “If the police show up, you’re paying the fine!” This would always bring a smile to his face.
His kind demeanor came naturally, because he knew what it was like to struggle. He fought a courageous battle with mental health, anxiety, and alcoholism for most of his life. Though Bryan walked a difficult path in life, he was able to experience sobriety. In his sobriety journey, he traveled twice to Australia as a reward to himself. Bryan was happiest when he managed a sober living house at Hope Manor. His work with Hope Manor has encouraged many in the community to continue a life of sobriety. Bryan is survived by his parents, Rayne and Reinie Kembel, and Allan and Patti Thomas; siblings, Carrie (Mitch) Moszer, and their children, Hudson and Hazel, Whitney (Greg) Roeberg, and their children, Grant and Nathan, Kayla (Alex) Roeder, and their children, Brynleigh and Brantley, Paige Thomas (Austin Vogel), and Steve, Monica, Duane and Clifford Kembel and their families; as well as numerous family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; two aunts; and his furry companion, Kirby.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be sent to Hope Manor. Online donations to Hope Manor can be given here.
“So when tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart. For every time you think of me, I’m right here in your heart.” A beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend – Rest in Peace, Bryan.
