Carol Olive Mae Samuelson of Bismarck, ND passed away on July 17, 2019 after 12 years of battling illness. She was surrounded by loved ones.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 20, at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1004 E. Highland Acres Rd, Bismarck, with Rev. Lisa Ahlness officiating. There will be no visitation.
Burial will be at 3:00 pm Wednesday, July 24, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Carol was born in Williston, ND on November 29, 1937. Her parents were Reverend Carl and Olga Nelson. Carol graduated as the valedictorian from Dakota Lutheran Academy in 1955, where she was involved in choir, cheerleading, and the women’s quartet. She graduated from Minot Trinity Lutheran Hospital with a BA in Nursing followed by a Master’s in Nursing in Bismarck.
She started her nursing career in Minot, ND at Trinity Lutheran followed by Mohall, Mandan, and retired from St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck after 54 years of nursing. Carol’s warm and loving personality made her a wonderful nurse to her patients as well as friends and family.
Carol married David Neubauer on January 11, 1959, together they had five children: Kelly, Paul, Jim, John, and Kristi. Carol and David spent 20 years raising their children throughout North Dakota.
Carol married Albert Samuelson March 25, 2000 in Florida. Carol and Albert’s life together was one of love, travel, and family. Combined they have 8 children, 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
If Carol wasn’t attending book club, PEO meetings, practicing her many instruments including the piano, clarinet, violin, and most recently the guitar; she was loving up on her great-grandchildren. Carol was always up for an adventure whether it was exploring San Diego with her youngest grandkids or going for a motorcycle ride around town. Carol was also a talented artist. She often surprised her family with portraits and paintings as gifts. Carol was an avid reader, stylish dresser and enjoyed using her recipe books more as suggestion books.
Carol will be remembered for her kind and welcoming heart, her ability to bring everyone together, and her devotion to all of her favorite people. She will be greatly missed by many.
She is survived by her husband, Albert Samuelson of Bismarck, ND; brother, Jim “GOAT” (Mary) Nelson of Clearwater, MN; sister-in-law, Bev Nelson of Eau Claire, WI. Her children: Kelly Neubauer of Jackson Hole, WY; Paul (Keri) Neubauer of Foley, MN; Joe (Janessa) Delvo of Fargo, ND; Jim Neubauer (Kim Laske) of Mandan, ND; Kristi (Vernon) Dovich of San Diego, CA. Her step-children Kathy (Randy) Heim of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Theresa (John) Finck of Mandan, ND. Her grandchildren: Anna (Nathan) Folk of Mandan, ND; Cameron (Shelia) Heim of Fargo, ND; Anita (Jeremy) Bohner of Mandan, ND; Zachary (Callan) Neubauer of St. Paul, MN; Mike (Kendra) Finck of Beulah, ND; Jordan (Laura) Neubauer of Princeton, MN; Nikki (Brad) Faiman of Bismarck, ND; Kathryn (Justin) Doll of Mandan, ND; Jordan Laske of Mandan, ND; Christopher Delvo of Fargo, ND; Tanner Neubauer of Sartell, MN; Christopher (Aurora Eckert) Neubauer of Mandan, ND; Andrew (Samantha) Delvo of Fargo; Kaytlin and Savanna Dovich of San Diego, CA. Great-Grandchildren: Parker, Brady, and Nash Faiman. Karson Tipton, Jonathan, Weston, and Wyatt Bohner. Ayden and Ethan Finck. Graham and Isla Folk. Gemma Neubauer. Bowen Doll. Tux her beloved cat.
She was preceded in death by parents, Carl and Olga Nelson; her brother, David G. Nelson; her sister Eunice Sanders; and son, John C. Neubauer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Lutheran Church of the Cross, Milk River Group Home Glasgow, MT, Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra, or the Bismarck Art and Galleries Association (BAGA).
We would like to thank the staff at St. Alexis and Sanford for their compassion and care for Carol in her final days.
