Carol Joyce Solberg

June 18, 1950 — February 25, 2019

Carol Joyce (Hill) Solberg, 68, Bismarck, died February 25, 2019, after a brief battle with cancer.

A memorial service is planned for 3:00 PM, Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Private interment at a later date.

Family will greet visitors from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm Saturday at Parkway Funeral Service.

She was born June 18, 1950 to Norval and Christine (Bossert) Hill. A 1968 graduate of Bismarck Senior High, she went on to graduate from the University of North Dakota. Carol married Robert Solberg in 1973 and began working at the Fleck Mather & Strutz law firm as a secretary before certifying as a paralegal. She finished her almost 40-year career at the Storslee Law firm, as their paralegal, retiring in 2012. Carol was a dedicated WDALA (Western Dakota Association of Legal Assistants) supporter of the Burleigh County Drug Court. She made sure there was not a Christmas gift given without one her cute little Christmas stockings on it. Carol was also a longtime member of National Association of Legal Assistants and a former president of WDALA. Her leadership skills in the paralegal field were recognized both within the state and nationally. She was also a volunteer at the annual RADD Santa Run (Runners against destructive decisions).

Carol always had a charming smile and personality that touched her family and friends. Her quick wit and sarcasm kept us humble. She was the heart and soul of our family. She was active in retirement with her daily aqua aerobics and Carol's love of reading got her involved as a tireless volunteer with the Friends of the Library and their many activities, especially the annual book sales; and, she often served as a proctor for bar exams. She was an avid golfer, created beautifully stitched crafts (baby blankets to Ronald McDonald House and newborn hats to the hospitals), and always had a knitting project in the works. Many family members and friends have personalized Christmas stockings she created. The nieces and nephews especially loved her slippers. She truly enjoyed her monthly get-togethers with close friends of the Panty Hose group (of which she was a founding member and earnest recruiter), as well as, a monthly luncheon with some of the Engel and Bossert cousins. She recognized the importance of staying connected personally and professionally. An accomplished wordsmith, she looked forward to online scrabble challenges and was a successful arm-chair contestant on “Wheel of Fortune “. She rarely missed a televised football game, especially when the Vikings were playing.

She was immensely proud of her family and always incredibly supportive. She leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. She was cherished by so many and will be profoundly missed by family, friends, and colleagues.

Her determination to beat cancer was an inspiration to all. Carol is survived by her husband, Bob, and sons, Monte (Minneapolis) and Marcus (Bismarck); sister, Connie Green (Minneapolis), brothers, Bruce (Peggy) Hill (Bismarck) and James (Sandee) (Benson AZ); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Dennis, Wesley, Larry and Steven.

In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to American Cancer Society or charity of choice.
