Carol Mae Wingenbach (Kastner) passed away unexpectedly on April 6th, 2024, at Sanford Hospital, in Bismarck.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Carol was born January 21, 1950, to John and Clara Kastner in Sisseton, South Dakota.
Carol was the youngest of five children raised on the family farm in Roberts County, SD. She graduated from Saint Francis Academy in Hankinson, ND in 1968.
After graduation, Carol lived and worked in Minneapolis, eventually settling in Bismarck. She married Wayne Muehler in July of 1970. Between 1971 and 1978 Carol and Wayne had 4 children.
Carol met the love of her life, Kenneth Wingenbach, in 1982. Ken and Carol married in July of 1993 and together built their dream home south of Bismarck.
She worked as a receptionist in the radiology department at Q&R Clinic/Medcenter One and later as an Ophthalmic Technician.
Carol was a talented landscape painter, cook, baker, and cake decorator, even making her children’s wedding cakes. She also enjoyed gardening when she retired.
Carol had a special place in her heart for animals. She especially loved doting on her three miniature poodles Rusty, Rudy, and Brandy. Most recently Carol and Ken cared for several cats on their property.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Rebecca, and her brother James Kastner of SD.
Carol is survived by her husband Ken, her daughters Heather (Kirk Krueger) Muehler of Olympia, WA, Jennifer (Clifford) Stumpf of Bismarck, her son Michael (Susan) Muehler of Bismarck, five grandchildren, Joshua, Andrew, Alexis, Megan, and Zane, and two great-grand-children, Jaxson and Ayla.
In lieu of gifts, Carol would have preferred donations to local animal shelters in her name.
