Catherine "Katie" Miller

December 10, 1921 — April 30, 2017

Catherine “Katie” Miller, 95, Bismarck, entered into eternal life April 30, 2017, at St. Vincent’s Care Center, Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, May 4, at Church of St. Mary, 806 E. Broadway Ave., Bismarck, with Rev. Msgr. Gene Lindemann officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Linton. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Wednesday, May 3, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a Catholic Daughter’s Rosary will begin at 7:00 pm followed by a vigil service. Katie was born December 10, 1921, to Gabriel and Magdalena (Lacher) Miller. She was raised 14 miles west of Wishek on her grandfather Thomas Miller’s homestead. She attended Friedenstahl District School, a one-room country school through the 9th grade. Katie worked at the “Midway”, a little hamlet east of Linton owned by George and Rosa Dockter. She was hired as a babysitter but before long was a jack-of-all-trades, including selling Watkins products. When her parents moved to Linton in 1959 Katie stayed on the family farm helping her brother Gabe until his passing in 1984. She then resided in Linton until 2002 when she moved to Marillac Manor in Bismarck. She has been a resident of St. Vincent’s Care Center since October of 2014. Katie attended St. Joseph Mission, St. Michael’s Church east of Linton, and St. Anthony’s Church in Linton, where she was a member in the choir at all three churches. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Precious Blood Companions. She was also a Eucharistic Minister and rosary leader at Marillac Manor. Katie enjoyed volunteering and helping others, she was a volunteer Ombudsman for 17 years at the Linton Hospital. She also taught 4H and Beaverettes for several years. After moving to Bismarck she shared her talents with others at the State Library, Girl Scouts, God’s Child Project, and more. She was a member of the Helping Hands Homemakers Club for over 30 years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, playing cards, and reading. Katie is survived by her sisters, Eva Slabik, Fargo, and Veronica (Ronnie) Berger, Mandan; as well as 49 nieces and nephews. Katie was preceded in death by her parents; her four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Phillip (Anna Mary), Pete (Kenegunda), Thomas, and Gabriel; four sisters and six brothers-in-law, Mary (Adolph) Herman, Maggie (Sam) Christmann, Frances (Eddie) Baumgartner, Theresa (Mike) Wolf, Pete Slabik, and Lawrence Berger; and infant siblings, Monica, Joseph, and Clementine.
