Charles William Welle, 63, Bismarck, died February 3, 2020 in Bismarck, ND. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Bismarck. A visitation and memorial service will be held at 9:00 AM followed by a Celebration of Life Mass at 10:00 AM.
“Chuck” Welle was born on July 6, 1956 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. His family moved to Bismarck/Mandan in 1964.
He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1974. During high school, Chuck worked at Fargo Paper Company and after graduation worked as a miner in the Homestake Gold Mine in the Black Hills.
He attended the Culinary Institute of America in Poughkeepsie, NY, where he learned to master his love of cooking. He graduated with a Culinary Arts degree and pursued a career in the kitchen. Chuck was instrumental in opening and managing the kitchen at State Street Café in Bismarck; designing the kitchen, creating the menu and managing staff.
Chuck moved to Colorado and worked in several restaurants including award-winning Pastas Italian restaurant and Marlows, a fine dining restaurant in downtown Denver. He was also the food and beverage manager for Shiloh House.
Due to a kitchen injury, he could no longer work as a chef so he joined in the roofing business with his brother, Nick, and worked for Colorado Continental Roofing. Chuck also worked for Dish Network for six years as a distinguished sales rep before retiring.
Ten years ago, Chuck was diagnosed with prostate, bone, and lymph node cancer. He fought valiantly to live a quality life and to see his children grow. His two children were the joy of his life and he loved spending time with them.
Chuck always appreciated opportunities to cook for family and friends and he loved to share his knowledge of cooking and baking. He also enjoyed the outdoors and made many memories hunting birds in ND with family and friends. He enjoyed following and rooting for the Colorado Rockies baseball team.
Chuck was passionate about helping others and he was an incredible friend to many. His caring personality will be missed.
He is survived by his son, Patrick Whalin, and daughter, Alisabeth Whalin, both of Englewood, CO; his siblings, Nick Welle, Bismarck, Mary (Dale) Kasowski, Bismarck, Gregory (Julie) Welle, Davenport, FL, Barb (Curt) Lindvig, Fargo, and Fr. Tony Welle, Wahpeton; his nieces and nephews, Matt (Jill) Kasowski, Greg (Heather) Kasowski, Chris Kasowski, Amy (Andrew) Brown, Lee (Aubrey) Speight, David (Valerie) Speight, Hannah Welle, Sarah (Garrett) Mikrut, John Lindvig, and Emily Lindvig; along with fourteen great-nephews and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Dolores Welle; his nephew, John Kasowski; his great-niece, Maelee Kasowski; his grandparents and several uncles and aunts.
In lieu of flowers, Nick has created a memorial account to be used for funeral expenses. Contributions can be sent to Nick Welle, 1820 East Capitol Avenue #124, Bismarck, ND 58501.
