Charles "Chuck" Walby

Charles "Chuck" Walby passed away March 14, 2025 at the age of 87.

A memorial service will be 10:00 AM, Friday, March 28, 2025 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Parkway Funeral Service. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 PM.

Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

My story started on October 14, 1937, in a two-story wooden house in Hettinger, ND. All of my school years were in Hettinger. I was active in football, basketball and baseball.

I enrolled in Valley City Teachers College (this was its name at the time) and received a Bachelors degree in teaching. My first teaching job was in Leeds, ND.

Max and I married on June 1, 1963. Dee was born in Mohall, ND. Steve and Scott were born in Mandan.

Our first summer we moved to Rapid City, SD. I was employed at Ellsworth Airforce Base as security detail to drive missiles to their silos. This was a very tedious and slow job at five to ten miles per hour, but it was a great experience.

While we were in Rapid City, I received a phone call to come teach in Maxbass, ND, so off we went. It was a very tiny town! We made special, life-long friends there though.

Next, we located to Mandan, ND. I taught Phy Ed at two elementary schools and Mandan Junior High gym class. Dee always cringed to have to ride to Junior High School with her DAD.

We relaxed by never missing any of the kid’s sporting events, cheering them on in football, track, basketball, and choir. We also camped a lot on weekends. What fun! Best of years!

I reenlisted in the North Dakota National Guard. I went on one deployment to Honduras with Task Force 164 at Camp Dacotah by Port City of Le Cieba. I retired from the National Guard with 31 years in. Somewhere in there I worked FEMA for a few months. Also, for Eagle Rigid Spans Inc. Always busy.

My story on Earth ended March 14, 2025 at 87 years old. I know and felt I was surrounded by loving family. Love you all and already miss you dearly, Chuck.
