Charlotte Krebs, 93, Bismarck, died on April 21, 2024.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 PM, Friday, April 26, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, 519 Raymond St, Bismarck. A livestream of the service will be available at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit | Bismarck, ND (cathedralparish.com)
Visitation will be held from 5:30-7:00 PM, Thursday, April 25, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit. A rosary service will begin at 7:00 PM.
Burial will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Charlotte Krebs was born on June 15, 1930 on the family farm in Hettinger County, the daughter of John J. & Katie (Lampl) Dobitz. She was raised on the farm and attended country school nearby. She lived with an aunt and uncle in Dickinson, graduating from Dickinson High School.
In 1947, she enrolled at Dickinson College for bookkeeping where she spent a year and a half. It was during this time she met Adam Krebs. Adam was on the GI Bill and working to receive his pilot’s license. On October 12, 1948 they were united in marriage at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in New England, ND. Together they moved to a farm near Ipswich, SD with the first of their 15 children. Following the birth of their third child, Charlotte’s growing family returned to New England to farm. Adam passed away on June 19, 1996.
Charlotte volunteered at the grocery store and the Arc Aid Thrift Store for 17 years. She belonged to the Women’s Club, Altar Guild and Sacristan at Saint Mary’s. Charlotte was very active and supportive of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was employed by Dvorak Motors, Schnell Livestock and Montgomery Ward.
She enjoyed working on crafts, making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, cabbage patch kids and sewing outfits. In May 2017, she moved to Bismarck and became a resident of Valley View Heights Assisted Living Facility and Missouri Slope Nursing Home.
Charlotte is survived by her children, Sandra “Sandy” (Joe) DiStefano, Reading, PA, Clyde Krebs, Surprise, AZ, Joletta (Jerry) Vetter, Bismarck, Gene (Judy) Krebs, Richmond, MN, Dale (Debbie) Krebs, Butte, MT, Gloria (Rick) Mellmer, Dickinson, Wanda “Bon” (Allan) Follman, York, Terrance “Tom” (Charlotte) Krebs, Cave Junction, OR, Blaine Krebs, Horace, Vance (Sandra) Krebs, Bismarck, Marte Krebs, Billings, MT, Lee Krebs, Golden Valley, Shauna (Kirk) Greff, Bismarck, and Lorne (Amity) Krebs, Beavercreek, OR; sisters-in-law, Claudia Dobitz and Vi Dobitz; 31 grandchildren; and 58 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adam; parents; son, Herb “Lyle” Krebs; nine brothers and six sisters-in-law.
