Cheryl K. Neumiller, 76, Bismarck, died peacefully on May 17, 2019, at St. Gabriel’s Community, Bismarck.

Burial is at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Cheryl Kay Carson was born on August 5, 1942 at the family farmstead near Chaseley, ND. She was the second of three children born to Raymond and Annette (Gellner) Carson. Cheryl grew up working hard on the family farm and attended local school graduating from Bowdon High School in 1960. In June of 1960, she married Charles Reeff. The two made their home in Valley City, ND, where Charles taught school and Cheryl attended Valley City State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in English and Library Science. Tragically, the marriage ended when Charles died unexpectedly, and Cheryl was widowed at the age of 21.

On July 22, 1966, Cheryl married DeVerne “Sam” Neumiller. In this marriage, Cheryl was blessed to become a loving stepmother to Sam’s three sons, Michael, Steven, and Rick. A fourth son, Cory, and a daughter, Nicole, completed the family. While Sam farmed, Cheryl taught school in Bowdon, ND, and together they opened a bulk fuel business, Neumiller Oil Co. In 1980, Cheryl and her family moved to Bismarck, ND.

After taking time to raise her family, Cheryl sold real estate and was the manager of a women’s clothing store. In 1986, she became employed with the North Dakota Public Service Commission, at the same time she earned her Paralegal Certification. In 1995, she joined Basin Electric Cooperative (BEPC) where she worked as the Director of Records Management until 2015. At BEPC, Cheryl appeared as a speaker at countless conventions and training sessions held for records management professionals.

Cheryl spent the last three years of her life as a resident at St. Gabriel’s Community after suffering a stroke. During her time there, she touched the lives of many fellow residents and staff. Her positive attitude in the face of adverse life circumstances and health issues was second to none.

Cheryl was a strong, intelligent, and classy lady. She loved books and learning everything about everything. She had a discerning eye for decorating and a unique way of making everything she touched beautiful. Her most important role, the one in which she shined the brightest, was that of mother and grandmother. Cheryl cherished her time with her beloved children and grandchildren, offering a warmth and unconditional love like no other.

Cheryl is survived by her four sons, Michael (Edie) Neumiller, Steven (Brenda) Neumiller, Rick (Londa) Neumiller, Cory Neumiller and one daughter, Nicole (Lawrence) Bender; one brother, Dennis (Pam) Carson; one sister, Sandra Springer; foster brother, Lyle (Nancy) Strickland; four grandchildren, Russell (Lisa) Neumiller, Carissa (Patrick) Metzger, Cody (Brittany) Neumiller, and Addison Neumiller; six great-grandchildren, Rachel Neumiller, RJ Neumiller, Rebecca Neumiller, Zahra Metzger, Evelyn Neumiller, a new great-granddaughter still on her way; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both of her husband; and her parents.

A special thank you is extended to the staff of St. Gabriel’s Community for the exemplary care and comfort they provided Cheryl during the final years of her life.
