Clara (Hoff) Baker, 101, went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Dec. 28, 2020. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan 4, 2021 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Clara was born Feb. 16, 1919 on a farm six miles northeast of Washburn to Jacob Hoff and Katie (Grauer) Hoff.
She worked in and around Washburn and Underwood.
She moved to town in 1949 where she worked at the Underwood Hotel, the cleaners and in Syl Vonderheides’ Clothing Store for nine years.
In 1960, Clara moved to Bismarck where she made her home with her mother. During this time, she worked at Penney’s and the Tempo store. In 1972, she worked for Burleigh County in the Homemakers and Health Aide areas retiring in 1982.
Clara was married to Lawrence Baker on Nov. 24, 1963 in Bismarck.
To this union her pride and joy, daughter, Karla was born.
Clara will always be remembered for her willingness to help others. She ran a daycare where she treated every child as her own. Many relatives and friends were happy recipients of her embroidered dish towels, jean quilts or things that she sewed.
She always kept a stash of pies, kuchen, lefse, banana bread or jars of her canned goods that she was always eager to share.
She loved to take care of her flowers, was very dedicated to her church and volunteering her services in the church kitchen.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her granddaughter, Krystal, and her great-grandaughter, Kayleigh, whom she loved very much.
Happy to have shared in her life is her daughter, Karla Holden; granddaughter, Krystal (Matthew) Vetsch; and great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Holden; one sister; Elnora Stengel; very special sister-in-law, Dorothy Baker; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Larry; son-in-law; Chris Holden; 11 siblings; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and a very special niece, Judy Johnson, who lived with Clara throughout the years.
To know Clara was to love her. She will be greatly missed.
