Clarence Kemmet, 85, Dawson, passed away on April 21st, 2017 at the Napoleon Care Center in Napoleon, ND. Services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 26, at the Dawson City Hall, in Dawson, ND, with Rev. Jacob DeBoer officiating. Burial will be at the Dawson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Tuesday, April 25, at Eastgate-Steele Memorial Chapel, Steele, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Clarence was born on October 16, 1931, in rural Dawson to Fred and Magdalena (Schauer) Kemmet. The second of four sons, he grew up on the family farm and attended a one-room country schoolhouse. In November of 1951 he was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps and served at Camp Pendleton in California before being honorably discharged in October of 1953. After working for Vickers Construction Company, Clarence was hired at BEK Communications in December of 1964 and continued to work there for over thirty years. He retired from BEK in April of 1997. For almost forty years, Clarence also farmed with his brother, Eugene. Clarence was an active member in the Dawson community, including the Lutheran Church, American Legion, and Fire Department. He was also a lifelong baseball fan, and for fifteen years he coached local Pee Wee, Little League, and Babe Ruth teams. After retiring from coaching, he continued to umpire for several more years. Clarence is survived by his two brothers, Eugene (Marlyce) Kemmet, Wahpeton, ND, and Lenny (Arlys) Kemmet, Bismarck, ND. He was also a very special uncle to his nieces and nephews, Tami Billing, Jami Milow, Michael Kemmet, and Brooke Kemmet, and his great nieces and nephews, Chad Wick, Samantha Billing, Gavin Milow, Alexandra Milow, Toby Milow, and Jairdyn Kemmet. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Allen.
