Clarence was born in Bismarck on Oct. 9, 1943 to Adam and Agnes Voigt. He attended Wachter School, went to Bismarck High School and later received his GED from South Central School in 1975. He enlisted in the United States Army in Dec. 1965 and was honorably discharged in Jan. 1967. He met the love of his life Susan Steffenson in 1970. They were married on Feb. 28, 1973 and shared 49 wonderful years together. They had their first daughter, Roxanne, in 1975 and in 1978 they were blessed with their second daughter, Lisa.
In the 49 years Clarence and Sue spent together, they enjoyed traveling to places like the Bahamas, and spending time with friends in one of their favorite places, Deadwood, S.D. Clarence loved gardening and tinkering on projects in the garage. He was a life-long painter, as well as an avid sweets enthusiast. This love came from his job at Eddy’s Bakery in Bismarck and Sweetheart Bakery in Minneapolis. He said in his later days that his favorite job was as an electricians apprentice.
Clarence loved to teach his girls all life skills. Roxanne and Lisa enjoyed their time as young girls going to the swimming pool, followed by Dairy Queen where they shared their love for sweets with him. He was the first dad to chaperone girl scout trips for Roxanne’s troop. This included trips to Minneapolis and many camping trips.
The biggest joys in his life besides his wife and two beautiful daughters were his granddaughters, Skyler and Abigail. The girls spend countless hours with their Papa Clarence in the summer at the Dakota Zoo, going to every park and visiting the Heritage Center. He loved watching Skyler play tennis, Abby play numerous sports – specifically swimming – and listening to both girls play the violin.
Clarence was survived by his wife, Sue; daughters, Roxanne (Collin) Jablonsky and Lisa Voigt; granddaughters, Skyler and Abby; three brothers, Leo (Latisha), Max (Dee) and Marvin Voigt; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Marty Voigt; niece, Melissa Horner; brother-in-law, Rick Steffenson; and in-laws, Richard and Shirley Steffenson.
