Clay F. Sorneson, 82, Bismarck, passed away on September 30, 2017, after a brief illness. Services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, October 6, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 1143 N 26th St., Bismarck, with Rev. Nadine Lehr officiating. Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Please join the family from 9:00 am – 10:00 am Friday at the church for refreshments. Clay was born in Fargo, ND, in 1935 to Fred and Dorothy Sorneson. He graduated from Bismarck High School. Clay studied engineering at North Dakota State University, receiving degrees in electrical and civil engineering. Clay married Ramona Knudson in 1960, and to this union two children were born, Lorne and Sue. Clay had a distinguished 47-year career with the North Dakota Department of Transportation. He was active in his church, the church choir, the gospel quartet, “The Hymns,” an avid golfer, and member of Kiwanis and Toastmasters. Clay was also a master woodworker spending uncountable hours building beautiful furniture and other wood projects. He was a passionate animal lover, raising many family dogs over his lifetime. Clay is survived by his wife, Ramona; son and daughter-in-law, Lorne and Lynne Sorneson; daughter, Sue Brown; sisters-in-law, Sceone Sorneson, Doris Knudson, Joan Johnson, and Rita (Marvin) Hewitt; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Tim; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Wilbert and Colleen Heid; and brothers-in-law, Duane Johnson and Clifford Knudson.
