Clement was born May 25, 1933, in Glen Ullin, ND, the son of Joseph and Tina (Braun) Simon. He attended Gibbs Country School through the eighth grade and later on went to Wahpeton for his mechanic’s degree. Clem was drafted into the US Army on December 1, 1953, served in Panama, and was discharged on December 1, 1955. Clem married Marie Busch on October 28, 1962, and to this union had six children. He farmed and worked construction from 1969 to 1979, then moved to Bismarck in 1979 where he worked at St. Anne’s school as custodian. In 1998, he retired from his full-time job, but went to work part-time at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Clem was nominated for the Emmon’s County Handicapped award, a shining example that he never let his disabilities slow him down. Clem enjoyed his time with prayer, which was a very big part of his daily routine. He also loved playing solitaire, listening to music, especially Danny O’Donnell and Gene Autrey, and loved watching old time western movies. He was a member of Church of Corpus Christi and Knights of Columbus.
