Cleo (Svangstu) Carlson, 72, of Fargo, formerly Bismarck, passed away on July 5, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo. Funeral Services will be held at McCabe United Methodist Church, 1030 N 6th St, Bismarck, ND 58501, at 10:00 AM Monday July 10th. Visitation will be held at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, Sunday July 9 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM with a prayer service for family and friends following at 4:00 PM. Visitation will follow one hour prior to the funeral service. Cleo was born in Williston, ND on June 4, 1945 to Alvin & Mary Svangstu. She was raised on the family farm and helped her parents with household chores and at the local drive-in. Cleo graduated in 1963 from Crosby High School where she played the saxophone in the band and was a majorette. She married Thomas Carlson in December 1966 while attending Concordia College. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 1968. She was a mom, elementary teacher, and later she worked as an activity assistant at a nursing home in Bismarck. She was a member and active volunteer at McCabe United Methodist church and liked to spend time knitting, sewing, playing piano, and caring for others. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Carlson; three daughters, Jenelle (Michael) Hoff, Kimberly (David) Youngquist, Melissa Carlson; four granddaughters, Amanda (Reggie) Heim, Kayla (Jordan) Selinger, Anna Youngquist, Sarah Youngquist; one great-granddaughter, Aubrie Heim; sister, Janet (William) Ingwalson, brother-in-law, Bruce (Susan) Carlson, brother-in-law, Burton (Judy) Parry and several nieces and nephews.
