Cleo Carlson

Cleo (Svangstu) Carlson, 72, of Fargo, formerly Bismarck, passed away on July 5, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo. Funeral Services will be held at McCabe United Methodist Church, 1030 N 6th St, Bismarck, ND 58501, at 10:00 AM Monday July 10th. Visitation will be held at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, Sunday July 9 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM with a prayer service for family and friends following at 4:00 PM. Visitation will follow one hour prior to the funeral service. Cleo was born in Williston, ND on June 4, 1945 to Alvin & Mary Svangstu. She was raised on the family farm and helped her parents with household chores and at the local drive-in. Cleo graduated in 1963 from Crosby High School where she played the saxophone in the band and was a majorette. She married Thomas Carlson in December 1966 while attending Concordia College. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 1968. She was a mom, elementary teacher, and later she worked as an activity assistant at a nursing home in Bismarck. She was a member and active volunteer at McCabe United Methodist church and liked to spend time knitting, sewing, playing piano, and caring for others. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Carlson; three daughters, Jenelle (Michael) Hoff, Kimberly (David) Youngquist, Melissa Carlson; four granddaughters, Amanda (Reggie) Heim, Kayla (Jordan) Selinger, Anna Youngquist, Sarah Youngquist; one great-granddaughter, Aubrie Heim; sister, Janet (William) Ingwalson, brother-in-law, Bruce (Susan) Carlson, brother-in-law, Burton (Judy) Parry and several nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law Patricia Parry.
