Dale R Dehlin

Dale Raymond Dehlin, 82, passed away October 17, 2017, at Baptist Health Care Center in Bismarck, ND. Memorial service arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Dale was born July 17, 1935, to Alvin Reinhold and Ellen Marie (Hanson) Dehlin in Graceville, MN, the youngest of eight boys. He graduated from Graceville HS in 1953 and worked his way through Moorhead State Teacher’s College (now Minnesota State University - Moorhead), graduating in 1959 with a degree in business education. He married Laurain A. Ford on February 19, 1956 in Green Meadow Township, Ada, MN. They raised three children together in North Dakota, living in the Bismarck-Mandan area since 1966. He worked almost 32 years at Job Service ND working primarily in Labor Market analysis. Dale enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers. In his teens, one of his life highlights was spending summers from 1947- 1954 in the carnival circuit throughout MN, ND, and upper midwest with his family as his dad performed his one man band of 8 instruments that he’d invented and built. After marriage, Dale and his brothers had yearly family reunions in Detroit Lakes, MN. Dale and Laurain hosted a foreign exchange student in 1977and they traveled to Ecuador in 1978. They spent many February vacations in Hawaii. After retirement he and Laurain bought a 5th wheeler RV, spending winters in AZ and traveling 1993-2007 primarily west of the Mississippi from Texas to Alaska to visit family and see the country. He attended House of Prayer Lutheran Church, was treasurer and on the church council for many years, and sang bass in the choir. He was on the board of directors for Camp of the Cross in Garrison, ND. Dale was a kind, gentle, peaceful, content soul. He loved his family dearly and was dedicated to providing for them and preparing them for life. He loved numbers and having his ducks in a row in all aspects of life. He probably planned his October death date to be the same as his July birth date, the 17th. He is survived by his wife Laurain Dehlin; three brothers Glenn, Floyd, and Gene; three children, Gary (Loly) Dehlin, Valerie (Perry) Scott, and Julie Dehlin; foreign exchange son, Carlos Anda; four grandsons, Bryan and Paul Dehlin, Ian and Andrew Scott; three great-grandchildren, Cadence, Rory, and baby girl Dehlin; and 24 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, LaVerne, Leonard, Maynard, and Lloyd. The family extends a special thank you to Baptist Health Care Center and to Edgewood Vista for the compassion and loving care given to Dale and his family in his last years.
