Daniel C. Brannan of Bismarck passed away on May 15, 2024 at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 9:30AM, Tuesday, May 21 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.
Dan was born on December 16, 1940 in Jamestown ND to Lola (Wilson) and Daniel C. Brannan, Sr. He grew up in Jamestown graduating from Jamestown High School then went on to graduate from Brown Institute of Broadcasting in Minneapolis. After broadcasting school Dan worked in radio in Jamestown and Valley City. He had is first taste of broadcasting at KEYJ in Jamestown when he was in high school. Dan worked as Major Dan at KCJB-TV and also worked on KCJB Radio in Minot. After Minot, Dan moved to Bismarck and worked at KFYR Radio. He worked at KBMR for a few months and moved back to KFYR Radio for the rest of his broadcasting career. At KFYR Dan held several jobs, announcer, Music Director, Program Director, Operations Director for the four radio stations owned by Meyer Broadcasting Company. Dan's final job was General Manager of KFYR & KYYY Radio. Dan received several awards in his career the Mike Rockwell Award from the Upper Midwest Communications Conclave and recognized by the North Dakota Broadcasters Association.
Dan married Karen Burton on October 1, 1963 in Minot, ND. Dan and Karen had two sons, Jon and Mark whom he shared his love of hunting, fishing and sports. Dan favorite time was “lake time”.
Dan leaves his wife of 60 years Karen; son Mark, granddaughter, Kesha (Blake) and great-grandchildren, Jetleigh and Ezrah and brother-in-law Lyle Anderson.
Dan was preceded in death by his son, Jon; his parents, and sisters, Gloria and Jackie.
