Daniel “Dan” Ray Cullen, 28, Mandan, died July 24, 2019 in Mandan, ND.
A celebration of Dan’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 31, at 10:30 am at Living Hope Church of the Nazarene, 1826 N 8th St, Bismarck, with Rev. Rich Wyatt officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 30, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Ave, Bismarck. Burial will take place on Wednesday, July 31 at 3:30 pm at Rosehill Cemetery, 700 11th Ave SE, Minot, ND 58701
Dan was born September 8, 1990, in Arizona to Dwayne and Deborah Cullen. The family moved to North Dakota in 1994 to be closer to relatives. Dan attended Lewis and Clark Grade School, Mandan Middle School and graduated from Mandan High School in 2010. After graduation, Dan worked at various restaurants and was currently employed at Bennigans.
Dan had a very special relationship with his brother Gary who lives in Grafton, they talked on the phone daily. He also loved to have campfires with his grandparents and cousins. Animals held a special place in Dan’s heart and he had many pets throughout the years, mostly cats, but was hoping he could soon have a dog. Dan liked to spend time playing old school video games and listened to a variety of music. He also enjoyed skateboarding, riding his bike and unicycle.
Dan struggled with addiction, but he wanted to live, to thrive, and he never wanted addiction to define him. Through his journey, Dan was always a caregiver to others. He often attended group at West Central and the family is thankful for the support given by them, and also through the Dakota Foundation. Dan was caring, kind and willing to help out with anything.
He is survived by his parents, Dwayne and Deborah, Mandan; brother, Gary Cullen, Grafton; maternal grandparents, William and Doris Schmitz, Minot; paternal grandparents, Florence and Tommy Spence, Pasadena, TX; uncles, Allen (Twila) Smith, Tony Smith and Todd Otto; aunts, Leslie Pigeon, Sherry (Kevin) Folkers, Pam (Glen) Rutherford and Jill (John) Westereng; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Julius Smith and Uncle Arlen Smith.
