Darlene Frances Bernhardt, 86, Tuttle, passed away at her farm on February 12, 2024. She was the daughter of John and Veronica Kuntz. Darlene was born September 2, 1937, on a farm near Belfield, N.D.
Darlene is survived by her sons, Darrel (Alison) and Calvin; grandchildren, Chealsea (Allen) and Nicholas; great-grandson, Ari Allen; and siblings, Ardella, Shirley, Galen, Carol, Bonnie, Randy, and Wayne.
Darlene married Gilbert Bernhardt in 1958. They purchased a farm near Tuttle, N.D. in 1964 where she resided the rest of her life.
She was proud of her son’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. She dearly loved her grandchildren. Her most cherished memories were when they spent time with her at the farm.
She was a high energy and goal oriented individual. Her memory was like the County Recorder’s Office records. Her favorite saying was: “Life is hard, you need to be tough!”
Darlene never met a stranger – she could strike up a conversation with anyone.
Darlene’s hobbies included: growing flowers, embroidering, quilting, listening, and dancing to Polka music.
Darlene and Gilbert welcomed into their home/farm many nephews, nieces, and neighbor children for extended visits.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, Feb. 24, at Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 318 2nd St SW, Steele.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM, Friday, Feb. 23, at the Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, 518 Mitchell Ave N, Steele. A vigil service will begin at 6:00 PM.
Burial will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Steele.
