Darlene Nanette Holznagel, passed away on January 18, 2024 at the age of 65, surrounded by family at their home in Bismarck, after a valiant battle with ovarian cancer.
Darlene was born on November 19, 1958 to Theodore and Irene (Franklund) Thorson. She received her education in the Wing area and proudly graduated from Wing High School in 1977.
It was during a 4-H camp that fate united her with the love of her life, Roger Holznagel. On December 17, 1977, despite a blizzard, they exchanged their vows and promised to stand by each other's side through thick and thin. They made their home in rural Washburn on the family farm.
Throughout her life, Darlene showcased her unwavering determination and remarkable work ethic. She fearlessly undertook numerous challenging roles, working in various industries such as restaurants, abstract companies, Cross Country Courier, and the Falkirk Mine. Darlene was never one to shy away from responsibility; instead, she embraced the most colossal tasks with unwavering passion.
Darlene's world revolved around her family, and their happiness brought her immense joy. With the arrival of their children, Stephanie and Christopher, Darlene's heart expanded even more. She was the epitome of a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and a doting grandmother. Darlene cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, including her beautiful grandchildren, Hayden, Kingston, Bennett, and Adlee. She was also a much-loved aunt to her nieces and nephews, providing guidance, love, and support throughout their lives.
In her leisure time, Darlene found solace in the art of sewing and possessed an inherent talent for hosting joyful gatherings. She exuded warmth and radiated an infectious energy, effortlessly captivating everyone she crossed paths with. Darlene's vibrant spirit and zest for life illuminated every room she entered. Darlene's memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Darlene will forever be remembered by her husband, Roger; loving daughter, Stephanie (Kaebea Dennis) Holznagel, and their son, Kingston, Norwood, Pennsylvania; son, Christopher (Lindsay) Holznagel and their children, Hayden, Bennett, and Adlee, Taylor, North Dakota. She also leaves behind her siblings, Beverly (Allen) Vollmer and Jerry (Dawn) Thorson of Wing, North Dakota, and Charlette (Gordon) Moe of Moorhead, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Julie (Lowell) Rader of Washburn, North Dakota, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Irene Thorson; infant sister, Ella Rae; mother and father-in-law, Milton and Lola Holznagel; brothers-in-law, Laren and Milo Holznagel, and other cherished family members.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Bethlehem Church, Wing, ND.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-7 pm at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with a prayer service starting at 7:00 pm.
