David was born on August 19, 1999, in Connecticut, to Carmine Cervellino and Carol (Pettinicchi) Zappone. He was raised in Connecticut and graduated from Water Town High School before entering the United States Air Force. He went to basic training in 2018, and was stationed in Minot, ND. He did specialized training in England, before returning to the Minot Air Force Base. While living in Minot, he met Madelyn Klee. When he was honorably discharged from the Air Force, he moved to Bismarck, ND, and was engaged to Madelyn and they married on June 14, 2024, at Corpus Christi Church.

His Italian roots came through a love for entertaining, food, and cooking. He learned his cooking skills from his father and was always excited to share his specialty lasagna and stuffed clams with family and friends. He enjoyed gardening; keeping an immaculate lawn, where weeds didn’t stand a chance. In the winter, he took pride in keeping his sidewalk groomed. Growing up in Connecticut, he was an altar boy, belonging to St. Thomas Church in Thomaston, CT, which in now part of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish. He was always proud that St. Thomas was the parish of the founder of the Knights of Columbus.

At the age of 12, David started to play taps at the local Memorial Day program at the cemetery, where he also led the cleaning of the headstones, less than a mile away from his home where he grew up. He was bestowed the honor of playing taps at Arlington National Cemetery. His love of music, trumpet skills, and taps had been passed to him from his dear grandfather. He was also a lifetime Boy Scouts.

David and Madelyn had an unconditional kind of love and most say opposites attract, but they were more of a cloned couple, more alike than different. They enjoyed walks by the river, watching their favorite shows on YouTube and TikTok, and shared a love for music. He was a natural pet dad to Madelyn’s furry child Bella, and their spiky child Ash, the bearded Dragon. They shared a youthful relationship, always enjoying their time together. David loved Madelyn tremendously, just as he loved his family in Connecticut and Bismarck.

David and his brother had a bond like no other. They were at each other’s side through thick and thin, good and bad. David respected his brother, and always had a funny story to share about Ryan. The love that David had for Ryan was seen through these stories he had to share.

James, his Air Force brother, was and is a great support of David. You could see their brother hood through their jokes and all the things that they shared. James welcomed David to Minot and made sure to support Madelyn while David completed his special training in England.

He will be missed by his wife, Madelyn Cervellino and her family in Bismarck; mother and stepfather, Carol and George Zappone; father, Carmine Cervellino; brother, Ryan Cervellino; grandparents, Dorothea DeLuca, Michael and Sharon Cervellino, Robert Pettinicchi and Christina Sims, an many extended family, military friends, and numerous friends in Connecticut and North Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, +Michael and +Mary Cervellino, +Louis and +Jean Pettinicchi, +Harold and Marion Tjagvad, and +Anthony and Wilhelmina DeLuca.

In lieu of flowers, memorials given to Madelyn will be utilized as she navigates through this difficult time, and most importantly, to buy a memorial tree at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
