David Fitterer, 54, Bismarck, passed away July 23, 2021. He was loved and cherished by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 29 at Evangel Church, 3225 N 14th St, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. A time for sharing of memories will begin at 6 p.m.
Dave was born on November 2, 1966, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After graduating from Glen Ullin High School in 1985, he went on to attend Bismarck State College and the University of North Dakota. In 1989, Dave graduated from UND and spent the first six years of his professional life as a teacher and coach. In 1995, Dave transitioned into the financial industry and started his career at Edward Jones in 2001.
In 1984, he started dating and fell in love with Cazanne (Knudtson) Fitterer. They married in 1989, going on to have three children: Jaxon, Jenna and Julia. Recently, Dave became a grandfather to Cade, who he adored. Taking Cade into his pool for his first-time swimming, epitomized Dave's enthusiasm for being a part of cherished moments such as this. Anyone who knew Dave could tell immediately that he loved his family deeply and strived to be a blessing in their lives.
Of all Dave’s interests, one stood out as his favorite. Nothing brought him more joy than cheering his children on as they participated in sports. A successful athlete in his own day, Dave was a consistent presence in the stands and on the sidelines, often volunteering at those events throughout the years.
Dave was the type of sportsman who could drive a golf ball 300 yards (by his estimation), shoot a pheasant with one shot and pull a “whopper” walleye all while still being domestic enough to achieve a perfectly manicured lawn. A passionate grill master, Dave would meticulously work the grill and produce “the best burgers ever!” by his family’s own admission. As good as these burgers were, however, Dave could never pass up the opportunity to have a home cooked meal from mom! A good weekend for Dave would always include walking his goldendoodle, Tucker, cleaning the pool for everyone to enjoy, and listening to his favorite music so loud the neighbors had no choice but to sing along!
As much as Dave loved these endeavors, he enjoyed the relationships he built through these moments even more. Dave truly cherished friendships in all aspects of life. He was the type of person others enjoyed being around and the type of friend that unfailingly put you at ease. He always had a refreshing smile that partnered with the kind of laughter that seemed to invite you to stay a while and shoot the breeze. Dave made significant contributions to his community and impacted many lives in meaningful ways. A talented singer, Dave spent years singing in the church and using this gift to minister to others. He will always be remembered for the love he showed family, friends and the community he cherished.
Dave will be remembered as someone who continually shared a genuine “goodness” to others on the outside while possessing an authentic love for Christ on the inside. His body may have passed, but his spirit lives with Jesus.
David is survived by his wife, Cazanne; son, Jaxon and his wife, Jess, and their son, Cade; daughters, Jenna and Julia Fitterer; mother, Dolly Fitterer; father, Don Fitterer; sisters, LeeAnn McLaughlin and Lisa (Zach) Ferguson; three nephews and one niece, Christopher Hartley, Landon Battest and Connor and Lauren Phillippe; father-in-law, Harold Knudtson; sister-in-law, Cerese (Patrick) Phillippe; brother-in-law, Chad Knudtson (Tammy Gullickson); and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and mother-in-law, Karen Knudtson.
